In early 2011, the new Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care at Wasdin Woods opened.
Nestled in two wooded acres, the Rockledge based center provides a home-like setting
for those who are too ill to remain at home. The new center offers a true hospice
setting to our patients, providing the privacy and comfort patients want, combined
with the support of a professional, full-time staff.
Each of the twelve large patient suites includes a screened porch that overlooks
a beautiful garden. All of the patient beds are on wheels, so patients can move
easily around the suite taking full advantage of the scenic views. Equipped with
a flat-screen TV and DVD player, each suite provides a private bathroom and shower
making it a comfortable oasis. Additionally, a special children's area includes
a game room, TV, and a library stocked with children's books and DVDs.
The center also features a common great room with a handcrafted stonework fireplace,
meditation center, spiritual center, on-site bereavement counseling area for families
and is equipped with a full kitchen providing room service cooked to order for patients.
The culmination of a 10-year effort, the center is named in memory of the late brother
of local cardiologist Ravindran Palaniyandi, MD. Dr. Palaniyandi and his wife, Ambika,
donated slightly more than $1 million, and many others also contributed generously
to project.
